An increasingly popular way to tie the knot is by destination wedding, where the bride & groom and guests travel to a resort destination for the ceremony and reception.

The options for a destination wedding are truly dizzying. Here are some things to consider before calling your travel agent.

  • Location -- would you like tropical beach, Las Vegas strip, a mountain cliff? Indoors or Outdoors?
  • Formality -- ceremonies range from barefoot casual to Ritz-Carlton ultra formal.
  • Number of Guests -- the low and high range of people attending your ceremony.
  • Length of Stay -- for resort destinations, guests can choose the length of stay. Cruises generally offer 3, 4, 5, and 7 day options.
  • Post-Ceremony "Honeymoon" -- the bride and groom can depart the ceremony resort, to round out their honeymoon at a neighboring resort. Or, they can continue at the resort acting as hosts. Another option is to have the guests leave the day after the ceremony, with the bride and groom staying on additional days.
  • Budget -- have an idea how much your guests are willing to pay, as well as budget considerations for the ceremony and honeymoon.
